Mushroom Starter Kits: What's Inside and Who They're For
Can't decide between strains, capsules and edibles? That is exactly what kits are for. A starter kit bundles several products or strains in smaller amounts, so you can find what you like without committing to full sizes of each.
Why a kit makes sense
- Lower commitment: try several options for less than buying each one separately.
- Built-in comparison: you learn your preferences by direct experience, not marketing.
- Smaller amounts: you are less tempted to take too much.
- A natural pace: a kit encourages one product per session, spread over weeks.
Our kits
- First Timer Kit: gentle, beginner-friendly picks for your first experiences. Ideal if you are brand new.
- Microdose Starter Kit: microdose essentials for building a routine. Choose your strain from the options, and note that Penis Envy and Albino A+ have stronger reputations.
- Six Strain Tasting Flight: six strains in one box, for comparing side by side.
Check each box for exactly what is inside and the amounts in each item. Browse all starter kits.
Which kit is for you?
- You have never taken mushrooms and want a gentle start: the First Timer Kit.
- You want small, sub-perceptual doses as part of a routine: the Microdose Starter Kit.
- You have some experience and are curious about strains: the Six Strain Tasting Flight.
- You are not sure: start with the First Timer Kit. You can always explore further later.
What to have on hand
- A small digital scale that reads to 0.1 g or better, for dried mushrooms
- A notebook or our journal template
- An airtight glass jar for storage, kept somewhere cool, dark and dry
- A clear calendar for experience days, and a sober friend for full doses
How to explore a kit safely
- One product per session. Never combine several in one sitting.
- Space them out. Leave at least a week between full experiences, since tolerance builds quickly.
- Start low. For dried mushrooms, about 0.5 to 1 g is a good first amount. For edibles and capsules, start with one piece or less.
- Keep conditions similar. Similar time of day, setting and mood make comparisons fairer.
- Take notes. Write down what you took, how much, onset time, peak and how you felt.
A sample plan for the tasting flight
- Week 1: the strain with the gentlest reputation, at about 0.5 to 1 g.
- Weeks 2 to 6: one new strain each week or two, same amount, same setting.
- Afterwards: review your notes and pick a favourite.
Do not expect dramatic differences between strains. Research shows potency varies a lot even within a single strain, so some of what you notice will be batch and dose, and some will be mood and setting. Our post on whether strains really feel different explains.
A sample plan for the microdose kit
Take one capsule on dose days, following a schedule like one day on and two days off, and keep a short daily journal. After four to eight weeks, take a break. Our capsule routine walks you through it.
